The PM SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) program, launched by the Government of India, aims to upgrade schools and enhance learning experiences. This five-year initiative is funded jointly by the central and state governments in a 60:40 ratio and focuses on improving infrastructure, promoting skill-based learning, and fostering overall student development.

In Phase 1 (2023-24), 543 schools were selected based on high student enrollment and active community participation. These schools are receiving additional funding for improvements such as vocational training, science and math activities, career counseling, and upgraded classrooms. In Phase 2, 251 more schools were added to the program, ensuring continued expansion and impact.

Each Primary School under the program is allocated a budget of ?90 lakh to ?1 crore, while Upper Primary Schools receive ?1.2 crore to ?1.3 crore. For Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools, funding ranges between ?2 crore and ?2.25 crore, depending on student enrollment and specific school needs.

For the 2024-25 academic year, the Government of India has approved a total budget of ?221.20 crore for Phase 1, with ?19.10 crore allocated for infrastructure development and ?202.10 crore for recurring expenses. For Phase 2, ?226.44 crore has been sanctioned, including ?107.63 crore for infrastructure and ?118.81 crore for ongoing operations.

Through PM SHRI, schools are being transformed into modern learning spaces, equipping students with quality education, career opportunities, and a strong foundation for the future.
